Expanding my Palette

I have had so much fun introducing new foods to Livy! She has been a fun sport and very open to trying new things! We started with greens, like peas, spinach, and broccoli. We have expanded to many new flavors, like carrots, sweet potatoes, apples, bananas, pears, avocadoes, and oats. It's been fun to make baby food for her, and I've been learning a lot from a great book called Feeding Baby Green.
The book talks about how to make food an experience for the little one by allowing them to smell, touch, and gnaw on the actual food you are going to feed them. You can see Livy gnawing on some raw spinach in a few of these pics and you will also see her hilarious reaction to the tartness of pears! She kept coming back for more though!

At first, she does tend to have a slight gag reaction when swallowing new foods but comes back for more and has really grown out of that now. She has become increasingly excited about eating and although she is still primarily nursing and getting her calories/nutrition from mommy, she is learning to have a diverse palette and to love fruits and veggies! We have many new flavors on the horizon for her to try!

Just last week, I received a small baby mill in the mail that I ordered for her and we used it the first time on Sunday. She had baked oatmeal and veggie lasagna that day ground up in the food mill and was beside herself she was so excited. Damein couldn't feed it to her fast enough!

It is so fun to see her enjoy flavor from fresh and healthy foods that are good for her body. I think it is amazing that we can shape our baby's tastes and teach her what to love and enjoy!

Her favorite is broccoli by far but she likes spinach a lot too!
